OUR METHODOLOGY

IOPS uses "real time" intelligence to provide the Master of the vessel key guidance and information to successfully avoid any potential altercation with suspected pirates. Success is defined as a safe, uneventful transit through the High Risk Area (HRA).  This is accomplished by conducting a thorough Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment that is specific to each vessel / transit followed by developing and implementing a Risk Mitigation Plan that includes our fully vetted and approved Rules of the Use of Force (RUF) and graduated response plan.  When all products are combined, they allow our MARSECPRO Teams to successfully employ the “Six-D” © principle:

• Detect - Know where the PAG’s are located with enough time so the vessel can successfully navigate around the potential threat,
• Dodge - Avoid suspected pirates by altering course thus preventing any opportunities for direct contact,
• Deter - In the event direct contact cannot be avoided, and after positive identification and documentation that the suspected pirates are in fact pirates, our AEMT’s undertake a variety of activities designed to demonstrate the vessel is not an easy target or opportunistic prey,
• Delay - If the pirate threat continues, our AEMT’s implement previously coordinated plans designed to slow down the PAG advance and provide the Master the opportunity and time to conduct evasive maneuvers and navigate away from the threat,
• Defend - If boarding appears imminent our AEMT’s, in accordance with the RUF, undertake activities to directly protect the vessel, crew, and cargo,
• Defeat - AEMT’s are trained to apply the minimum use of force necessary to render the pirates incapable of continuing their attack thus providing the Master the ability to continue the transit as planned.

OUR PERSONNEL & EQUIPMENT

Our Team members are fully vetted Maritime Security Professionals (MARSECPRO) with recent, relevant maritime experience and our Team Leaders are all Tier I professionals, most with Special Operations backgrounds.   Our personnel, from all over the world, are continuously trained in accordance with the standards established by the International Association of Maritime Security Professionals (IAMSP) and with emphasis placed on the Rules of the Use of Force (RUF), Human Rights, and International Maritime Law.  All IOPS personnel possess pristine morals, values, and virtues; all of which exceed the minimum requirements of the International Code of Conduct for Private Security Providers (ICoC), and MSC.1/Circ.1405/Rev. 1.
